On a Friday morning I skip my usual early morning swim to go along to The Pilates Studio in Pomona for a class with the Pilates guru, Judy Amira. Judy is a highly qualified Instructor Trainer in the Canadian Stott Pilates methodology. She has taught and examined many of the other Pilates Teachers in Harare and has a degree in Nutrition.
The beauty about Judy’s classes is that every time you go along she does something different. There were 5 of us in the 7am “Mat” class this morning and we did a lot of work on stretching and balance with “soccer size rubber Balls”. Each routine incorporates some sort of Core strengthening and you leave the hour long class feeling that you have had a good work out. I find it particularly useful for the lower back pain I sometimes have after playing a serious game of golf. Just one Pilates session is all that it takes to make the aching go away!
Judy has studied all sorts of Pilates methods including Reformer, Cadillac, Injuries and special populations, Pre- and Post-Natal.
