Get the right Mentality

First thing I need you to know is that the way you think is affected by what you expose yourself to. What are you letting into your mind? You are a product of what you think of yourself. If you think that you have bad luck then you will notice that you will approach anything you want to do expecting something bad to happen. The best way to counter this is to have a positive mindset.

The Basic definition of a mindset is the way in which you think. I am sure you have heard of the statement, “as a man thinketh, so is he”. For our lives to change we need to change the way we think. TD Jakes puts it in this way, “All you have to do to change your life is to change your mind”. How does one change their mind? We will get to that just now. Is it easy? No, it is not easy but it is definitely worth it.

The first step you need to begin this journey of renewing your mind is ACCEPTING who you are. I noticed with some people, that they are so obsessed with being like someone else or conforming to a status quo just to fit in when we are meant to stand out. Knowing that you are fearfully and wonderfully made should give you enough reason to accept who you are and not the negative lies that you sometimes tell yourself. Are you meant to be different? YES, if you want me to prove it try look for someone else who shares the same fingerprint with you. Do you believe me now?

The second step you need to take is to CONTROL your thoughts. You are in charge of the way you think. Remember what I said earlier, “Your mind is affected by what you expose yourself to”. Getting out the dirt in your mind is definitely not easy but it is achievable. I started what I call the rubber band exercise which I learnt from a book called “one minute millionaire”. So all you need to do is to wear a rubber band on your wrist and whenever you think of something negative just pull the rubber band and release it. I know it will be painful, I had a little sore black mark after about a week into the exercise but that made me realize two things.

The first thing I realized was if my skin got a little black mark because of all the snapping that I have been doing with a little elastic band, imagine the damage all this negative thinking has been doing to my life so far. I will tell you now, my life totally changed the minute I decided to adopt a positive mindset.

The second thing I then realized was that I started snapping the elastic band less after a few weeks because I was having less negative thoughts and my way of thinking had started to change. I was so excited to see the little black mark disappear and it really felt like and achievement and it boosted my confidence and the way I looked at life in general. You should definitely try out this exercise!!!
