Are you thinking of embarking on a weight loss journey? Have you tried everything you are seeing online and are still not satisfied with the results? Or perhaps, you are wondering why you have an on and off relationship with your fitness program? Then this article is perfect for you because you will find answers to some of your everyday weight loss questions.
I have been on my fitness journey for nearly 6 years now. I went from being obese to fit in the space of a year. I tried various methods of weight loss, but the main form of exercise that worked for me was running. I ran my way to fitness and went from 85kgs to 75kgs. Please note, this is what worked for me however, results may vary depending on each individual.
Below are some easy to follow suggestions you can go through before you embark on what I like to term your “fitness lifestyle”;
Why do you want to lose weight? This is the first question I ask my clients. Some of the responses are;
• I want to look good,
• I want to get rid of my pot belly,
• I want to fit into my wedding gown in a few months,
• I just had a baby and need the baby weight to go,
• I want to get my fitness back.
“You will never be able to hit a target you cannot see.” – Robin S.Sharma.
I agree with the above quote. If you do not know the reason why you want to lose weight you will soon give up and go back to square one. Understand the real reason why you want to do this and you will easily find discipline and motivation to keep going.
This is where things get interesting. The majority of people will choose to do what their friend is doing. Which is not a bad thing until you learn that you do not enjoy it. While I prefer to run it does not automatically mean it will work for you. Listen to your body and find out what works for you and do more of that.
There are different types of exercise which are;
4. High-Intensity Interval Training
5. Boot camps
6. Balance or stability
Whichever one you choose the important thing is to have an enjoyable experience. I will dig deeper into the various types of exercises in future articles. If you have a personal trainer they will tailor-make a program that will challenge and excite you at the same time.
Choose a time where your mind and body are most productive. I am a morning person and my exercise routine is scheduled for mornings. Maybe you work best in the evening and if you are among the lucky few, anytime of the day. If this works then, by all means do that. Whichever category you fall under you need to be committed to set aside at least 30 minutes per day to exercise.
Exercise is designed for everyone, be it adults or children. I believe the earlier you teach children about the benefits of exercise the better because they learn new habits easily. I include my daughter in some of my indoor exercises and walks. Imagine if we all did this in our households? We would have a nation filled with healthy and happy individuals who put their health and wellness first.
With the current global pandemic, it has become important to take care of ourselves. We are spending a lot of time indoors and one of the best ways to be productive with your time is to incorporate exercise into your daily routine.

As I mentioned earlier, I ran my way to weight loss but, over time I found out that there is more to life than running and thanks to that experience my journey to wellness has been interesting.
In the meantime, think through the reason WHY you want to start this journey. Once you figure it out you will understand why everything makes sense after a workout.
