Number Eighteen is an exclusive guesthouse located in the Northern suburbs of Harare, the luxurious bed and breakfast is ideal for both corporate clients and leisure travellers that require a midweek break or space to destress and relax. This was our exact feeling when, on a hot Thursday after an exhausting day at work. We arrived at the hidden haven that is the guest lodge at Number 18 Colnebrook Lane. Tucked away in a quiet, leafy street, with no sign at the gate, Number Eighteen has ensured their guests’ privacy and maintained a high standard of exclusivity.
From the car, we were given a warm welcome by Trust, the manager, who escorted us into a welcoming reception area that is stylishly decorated with furniture that has touches of blue, green and warm yellows to create a warm and soothing atmosphere. We were promptly escorted to our room where, waiting for us, were complementary melt in your mouth chocolates , as well as ultra soft bathrobes for us to snuggle up in. Trust showed us the guest welcome note that had all we needed to know, including the services on offer and a pillow menu to select from to ensure a night of well deserved rest. Having done this he left us to settle into our room.
The suite, a spacious room that leads out into a garden area, boasts of Restapedic twin beds that join to make a king size bed. Not only does the suite have a custom tea and coffee station that is stocked with both local and international products, it also has a wall mounted flat screen television that caters to all your viewing needs. With its recording options and the full bouquet feature, guests can catch up on their favorite shows, news and sports in the comfort of their rooms. Finally, we found ourselves in our bathroom with a rainfall shower and a large jacuzzi bath that you just want to dive into.
Having refreshed, we left our room to acquaint ourselves with what Number Eighteen has to offer. We met Janet and Tammy, who keep the lodge maintained and are attentive to the guests’ needs. The sitting and dining area is adorned with exquisite art, sculpture and souvenirs that add character and a personal touch to the lodge. The veranda overlooks an inviting entertainment and pool area that has a fully stocked honesty bar. Back in our room, we sat down to do some work. With a steady, seamless flow of electricity and reliable, high-speed WiFi, Number Eighteen provides you with a unique working environment.
Just before dinner we met Tania, one of the owners of the lodge, who made sure we were enjoying our stay. She took us on a journey of how the lodge was previously their family home that they lovingly converted over a period of two years into what Number Eighteen is now. She and her daughter Robyn, personally chose the locally sourced interiors in order to support Zimbabwean businesses and to add a certain authenticity.
After starting off the next morning with a light workout in their well stocked gym, we were treated to a healthy breakfast, which included a full continental spread with fresh fruit, a range of cereal, yogurt, cheese and freshly baked croissants. This was followed by a delicious full English breakfast which we enjoyed.
Just before our departure, our lovely host Robyn Norris, popped in to remind us of their philosophy. Number Eighteen began as a home and it remains so. A home away from home to all their guests. The many reviews and recommendations the exclusive guesthouse has received testify to this. We had an amazing experience at Number Eighteen, business and leisure travellers alike should try it soon.
