I recently read an article, on the Power of Positivity website, which discusses 15 proven reasons to meditate more often. As meditation – no matter how brief – is a core activity of a Mindful Lifestyle, I thought I would share with you the benefits that appealed to me the most.

Many cultures have practised meditation for thousands of years and its successes have been documented as early as the first century BC. Meditation is now catching on like wildfire in the western world, as we are realising the enormous potential of this peaceful practise which is available to everyone and does not have to cost anything!

Meditation has attracted the attention of the scientific community and studies have been carried out in recent years in a variety of settings, like business, education, psychology and medicine. The consensus is unanimous, those who meditate receive extensive benefits, including the reduction of anxiety and stress, a more positive outlook and even a relief from depressive symptoms.

But there are lesser-known reasons to make meditation part of your daily routine. Memory, attention span, examination performance and productivity increase, as meditation develops mental focus and improves motivation. It also boosts your immune system and keeps illnesses and infections at bay, by boosting the production of antibodies. Meditation can also lower your blood pressure, as it balances the nervous system. For the ladies, PMS symptoms are eased and fertility enhanced.
