The sun shone brightly over the Old Georgians Sports Club in Mt Pleasant Harare, as crowds gathered for an afternoon of vibrant energy and purpose. The Her-Flow Colour Run wasn’t just any race—it was a celebration of women’s health, empowerment, and community spirit, all while raising funds for period kit donations to schools and charity homes.
I arrived to a sea of excited participants, many dressed in white T-shirts, ready to be splashed with bursts of color. Before the run even began, John Cole had the crowd hyped up, leading an energetic Zumba session that had everyone sweating and laughing under the afternoon sun. His infectious energy and killer dance moves set the tone—this wasn’t just a run, it was a party for a cause.
The air buzzed with laughter, music, and the hum of anticipation.
As the run began, the crowd surged forward, not in a competitive sprint but in a joyful, colorful stroll. At every checkpoint, volunteers showered us with clouds of powdered dye, turning the path into a rainbow of happiness. Kids giggled as they threw handfuls of color at their friends, while adults danced to the DJ’s Reverb 7 upbeat tunes between stations.
What made the event even more special was knowing that every step and every splash of color contributed to a greater cause. Many young girls in Zimbabwe miss school due to lack of access to menstrual products, and the funds raised today would help provide period kits to those in need.
By the end, my white shirt was a canvas of vibrant hues, my face dusted with pink, orange and blue. Exhausted but exhilarated, I joined others in the final celebration—a massive group color toss that painted the sky in a dazzling display.
As I left Old Georgians, the colors on my clothes weren’t the only thing that stayed with me. The sense of community, the laughter, and the knowledge that we had all come together for an important cause made the Kindry Her-Flow Colour Run an unforgettable experience.
And the best part? (Watch the video here) The real impact was just beginning—one period kit at a time.
