This past weekend, I had the joy of attending the Pink Fun Run at Chisipite Senior School, and let me tell you, it was pink in every sense of the word! As the early bird I pride myself on being, I arrived just in time for registration and was immediately handed a bright pink cap, courtesy of KFC.
Looking around, it was a sea of pink heads bobbing across the school grounds, a cheerful sight that set the tone for the day. We kicked things off with some energising stretches and a bit of dancing to loosen up before the run. At exactly 8 AM, just as the program promised, the 3km fun run began. While the distance may sound modest, the hilly terrain had many of us gasping for breath.
After the run, the real fun began. Students dove into games and dance-offs, with the crowd favourite being Dunk It, a hilarious setup where a well-aimed throw could send beloved teachers plunging into a tank of water. The cheers were deafening.
Beyond the fun and games, the event carried a powerful message. Organisations like Remit Hope and CancerServe were present, advocating for women affected by cancer and raising funds to support their treatment. Dr Nyakabau delivered a moving talk, reminding us that while we may not all be doctors, we each have the power to support those fighting this battle. She introduced us to a brave woman, just 34 years old, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer in July last year. Thanks to CancerServe, her unwavering faith, and sheer resilience, she stood before us as a survivor.
Her story was a poignant reminder of why events like this matter. Remit Hope has already raised about $7,000 in just two weeks, and every additional dollar means more lives touched, more hope restored.
It was a day of colour, compassion, and community, and I left feeling inspired to do more.
