On Sunday afternoon, I made my way to Miombo Mountain Lodge with one goal in mind: to finally experience one of their much-talked-about weekly Sunday sessions.

As it turned out, the afternoon had a pleasant surprise in store. Taking the stage was the FaB Fusion Duo, a husband-and-wife pair who form the heart of the larger FaB Ovation band. Known for their acoustic, stripped-down sets as well as their high-energy performances, they have been captivating audiences for over a decade. Having seen their name on countless flyers around town, I had always been keen to experience them live, so it was a perfect coincidence that they were the featured act on the very day I chose to attend. They did not disappoint. Their performance was seamless, engaging, and full of character.

Beyond the music, the setting of Miombo Mountain Lodge truly stands out. Sitting indoors, you are still fully immersed in nature, surrounded by fresh, crisp air and views of trees and rolling greenery that no camera quite manages to capture in their full beauty. It is calm, grounding, and exactly what a Sunday afternoon calls for.

Of course, the experience would not be complete without the food. The three-course meal was nothing short of exceptional. I started with chicken livers, followed by a rich and flavourful butter chicken curry served with basmati rice, and rounded it all off with a warm, indulgent malva pudding for dessert. Simply put, this was easily some of the best food I’ve had this year.

A special mention must go to our waiter, Tino Wezengwe. Attentive, warm, and effortlessly professional, he is clearly someone who genuinely enjoys what he does, and it shows in every interaction. Service like that does not go unnoticed. What makes Miombo Mountain Lodge even more appealing is that it offers more than just one kind of experience. From dining and live music to outdoor activities and relaxation, it is a place where you can spend the day. I will certainly be back next time for a hike and a visit to their spa.
