Acupuncture: The thought of subjecting any part of my body to Acupuncture has, to my Western Mind, always given rise to thoughts of fear – “No Way Jose”. Playing golf with different schools over the past 60ish years, however, I have met some very interesting people. One such person, that was in my fourball recently, was a lady doctor, who hails from the East and has specialised in Chinese Medicine. During our 4 or 5 hours on the golf course, I chatted to her about the way she had been taught how to deal with medical issues compared to what I have been subjected to in my Zimbabwean type of lifestyle.

Bottom line is that I relented and went in for a 90-minute session of Acupuncture yesterday in the hope that it would resolve my annual conflict with Sinuses. The “Needles” are thin, tiny pin types that you hardly notice piercing one’s body. You must keep them intact for about 25 minutes, so whilst waiting for them to take effect I casually mentioned a niggle around the Knee area. Next minute Doc had a couple of needles in my lower cheek and, more significantly, in my forearm – instant benefit. Interestingly enough, she did not have to place any needle in my knees – all about flows and connecting parts in the body? I’ll be back tomorrow for a second session.

Recommended ReadingStrangers in Time, is David Baldacci's latest novel. The narrative is set in London in 1944, telling the story of a bereaved bookshop owner and two teenagers scarred by the Second World War, and the healing and hope they find in one another. This story is completely different to any of his other highly rated, action-packed bestsellers. One of those books that you sit by the fire reading, late at night, promising yourself that it will be

“Just one more Chapter before bed”. This tale shows his deep understanding of the way so many different characters see and live life. Highly recommended.

Wag ZoneWhen you live in a big city, like Brisbane or New York, and keep pet dogs you are almost compelled to take them for a daily walk around a local dog park. The owners often befriend other regular visitors raving on about their special “Buster” or “Dexter”. The Wag Zone, in Chispite, is one such place run by volunteer friends of the SPCA opening during daylight hours for Harare canine lovers to parade their dogs whilst enjoying a Cappuccino and a dose of fresh air. Its always such a pleasure witness the unbelievable excitement from my “Zelda” and “Sydney” when, at the end of the day, I lower the back of my double cab to take them for a well-earned trip down to the Dog Zone. The SPCA need all the help we can give so make time soon to drive down to the Wag Zone with your Mutt(s).
