On Saturday, I had the chance to experience my first Frost & Sip event, an intimate cake-decorating experience hosted by To Do List, and it was every bit as enjoyable as I had hoped. The concept is simple but so much fun. You are given the baked part of your cake and, with the hosts guiding you through each step, you get to transform it into your own creation. The process is explained step by step, making it easy to follow even if cake decorating isn't something you have tried before.
The experience takes place in an intimate group of just ten people. There is enough time to ask questions, experiment and simply enjoy the process without feeling rushed. In about two hours, you go from a plain cake to a decorated one that you can proudly take home with you. The ticket includes a drink of your choice from the extensive Scotch Cart menu, as well as all the supplies you need to decorate your cake. So, essentially, you arrive, sip, decorate and leave with your very own cake.
One of the unexpected highlights was how relaxing the decorating process was. I have recently become quite fond of painting, and I found myself drawing a similar comparison between painting and frosting a cake. There is something therapeutic about working with colour, texture and your hands; watching something slowly take shape in front of you is quite therapeutic. Also, the fact that the aim is not perfection or creating a cake worthy of a professional bakery window. It is just to allow yourself to be creative.
If this sounds like something you would enjoy, keep an eye on To Do List's pages for their upcoming Frost & Sip dates. You might just discover that cake decorating is your next favourite creative outlet.
