From Friday, 31 July to Sunday, 2 August 2026, Chisipite Senior School became the home of some of Zimbabwe's finest schoolgirl hockey as it hosted the highly anticipated Golden & Silver Girls Hockey Tournament. Bringing together talented teams from about 24 schools, the tournament delivered three days of fierce competition.
The success of the tournament was made possible through the support of various sponsors, including Croco Motors, Safeguard, Aquasure, and Lavers Sports, a company well known for providing sportswear and sponsoring teams with their regalia.
It was well represented through the Under Armour golf shirts worn by some of the event's staff, and their exhibition stand, where visitors could browse a selection of quality sporting apparel.
As the tournament progressed, so did the intensity. Friday saw teams settling into the competition, and Sunday, every match carried extra significance, with supporters lining the sidelines.
The finals were a thrilling spectacle, with the atmosphere growing louder and more electric. I was most impressed by the determination, teamwork and resilience shown by the young athletes. School sport remains such an important platform for developing not only talented players but also confident, disciplined young women.
Congratulations to Midlands Christian College for being crowned the 2026 Silver Girls Hockey Tournament Champions, and to Falcon College for claiming the 2026 Golden Girls Hockey Tournament title after an outstanding tournament.
Both teams demonstrated remarkable skill, composure and consistency on their way to lifting the trophies.
If there was one place to be this past weekend, it was undoubtedly Chisipite Senior School.
