The morning of the Horse Race Day at Borrowdale Racecourse began under gloomy skies, with relentless rain that seemed determined to keep everyone indoors. It was the kind of weather that makes you want to stay curled up at home with a warm beverage, a soft blanket and a good book or favourite television show.

For a moment, the temptation was real. However, the anticipation for race day had been building throughout the week, and there was no way I was going to miss it. Despite the grey skies and persistent rain, I gathered the motivation to head out, and it turned out to be well worth it.

Beyond the excitement of the track, the day also carried a special significance as it formed part of the celebrations for International Women’s Day. Earlier in the day, a Ladies’ Breakfast brought women together to celebrate the occasion in a warm and welcoming setting. Just below the Pinnacle area, a vibrant fashion show was also taking place, with a variety of stalls added to the lively atmosphere, with different businesses showcasing and selling their products. Visitors took their time browsing, shopping and engaging with the stallholders between races.

The sheer speed of the horses created a thrilling atmosphere that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Some racegoers followed the action closely while others simply enjoyed the fun of having a small flutter on their chosen horse, adding an extra layer of excitement to the experience. We enjoyed the Pinnacle Experience, which added an extra layer of comfort to the day. Alongside the races, we were treated to a delicious lunch prepared and served by Chef AL.

Once the races concluded, it was time to relax, socialise and enjoy the company of friends while reflecting on the day’s highlights. As the evening went on, the music inspired a light-hearted karaoke atmosphere, with those brave enough singing along from their tables.

If you missed it this time around, it’s certainly one to add to your calendar for the next one.
