Hi All
It’s a strange phenomenon whereby, no matter how fit you are from training for one sport, when you start playing a different activity, there will be unused muscles or ligaments that are in a relative state of atrophy. All that triathlon training, and I “Hobble” home from bowls with very stiff quads and hamstrings. The feeling of “tired legs” for me was further compounded by playing a couple of long rounds of golf over the weekend.
So, the first thing on my bucket list this Monday, was to seek out the services of a top-of-the-range masseur to help resuscitate my poor legs. Enter the Hyatt Regency Harare, The Meikles, with their very upmarket Spas.
I’ve been very fortunate recently to have been invited to attend a couple of grand opening functions for the complete revamping of the Hyatt Regency / Meikles Hotel. The new owners have taken this historic icon of our capital city to an infinitely higher level. Read the related article (Click here) placed in a recent issue of our Nzira Travel magazine. Do yourself a favour and drive down to the Hyatt Regency for a Sunday lunch or an early evening meal in their 5-star restaurant.
One walks out of the Hotel’s first floor to a large infinity swimming pool set alongside a well-furnished gym with the massage rooms next door. My experience began with a glass of cool Hibiscus tea before being asked to place my bare feet in a bowl of warm water. My appointed masseur duly came in; put on soft soothing music; dimmed the lights, and proceeded to give a gentle foot massage, awakening all the toes and heels.
Then, lying face down on the bed, she asked if I wanted a gentle, average massage or a firm pounding to release all the tight knots – strong, please. 30 minutes later, I was shown the “Recovery Room” – more like a full-on bedroom complete with showers, resting beds and dried fruit.
A highly recommended experience for just US$40 – make a date there soon – ideally around 11.30 am so that you can savour their lunchtime offerings and a glass of wine with a friend straight after. Ciao Mike G.
