Because people in this day and age have become accustomed to being wrapped up in their own lives and not caring about those around them, people are always in a rush to get somewhere and have forgotten to take a moment to show courtesy to another driver (or pedestrian for that matter) will only delay their arrival time by mere seconds.
In today’s age, we need to retrain people’s minds and have them display more acts of courtesy and kindness. What makes it worse is that they are doing it in front of their children so they grow to accept rude behaviour as a normal part of life when the opposite should be true.
Take speeding for example, even if you speed by just 5 km/h over a one-hour trip (based upon a 100 km/h speed limit area), you are only gaining a maximum of 3 minutes, break that down to a 30-minute trip where your saving 90 seconds, is it worth it when just a few kilometres over the speed limit could mean that a slippery part of the road or a sharp corner becomes dangerous to the point you are not only risking the lives of those in your vehicle but also the lives in the vehicles sharing the road with you. These seconds you are so eager to save could be the price you put on your own life or the lives of others, are you or those you love only worth seconds or are they more precious? Seriously people, are the seconds in your life so important that you cannot spare a few to consider others around you?
Just because you use the road, doesn’t mean you own it. We all share the road, we all share the responsibility. Reaching the destination safely is the best reward for any motorist/pedestrian! Let us be kind and courteous to our fellow road users, and remember that road safety is a team activity. Let us help each other ease the frustrations of heavy traffic and help everyone arrive alive at their destinations.
