| Hi All The Nomads Golf Club is made up of about 160 guys involved with all manner of businesses. Their objectives include raising awareness for the less fortunate in our communities as well as giving guys a monthly chance to meet well-meaning peers to share their important happenings plus ideas on helping their communities. I have been a member for 35 years this month, and even though I don’t join in as often as I did in the past, I use these times to catch up with long time golfing buddies as well as listen to a few different ideas from newly inducted members. On Sunday morning a complete field with 72 of us drove out to Marondera golf club to have a fun-filled day of golf. The course was in very good condition with the fairways completely covered and the bunkers very playable (for some guys anyway!). Marondera has an extremely cold winter, meaning that the greens need looking after at this time of the year – the stimpmeter did not match up to the expectations of a few members from Royal Harare and The Brooke! The good news is that several private investors have raised a handsome sum of money to build a completely new clubhouse. Plans have been drawn up with the developers awaiting the necessary approval before commencing building. Word is that they expect it to be finished by the end of this year. The plan is to convert the existing clubhouse into a gym or sporting facility and then to build the new club between the seventh (7th) green and the 2nd Tee Box. The entrance from the road will remain the same, with a road being built around the edges of the current building; crossing in front of the first Tee box before turning immediately left to a new car park on the right (east) side of the 9th hole. There was little traffic on the road early Sunday morning, and the return journey after the prize giving at 3 pm was still manageable. Why not go out there either with a few mates or with your teenage kids for a great morning? Ciao Mike G. |
