Hi All
Once a year, for the past 15 years, Debbie Jeans along with the Cancer Association and Triathlon Zimbabwe put together an extremely well organised Triathlon to raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer (Pink). The latest one was held yesterday at the Mount Pleasant Swimming pool and this year they decided to combine the event with Prostate Awareness (Blue).
Competitor participation continues to grow each year with over 100 individuals yesterday choosing one or more activity from Running, Swimming, and Cycling. Always such a pleasure to see so many moms and dads running around the course encouraging their littlies to make the whole journey in a fun filled family way.
“Zimworks” were, once again, the main sponsor with their health activities leader, Pastor Sam, opening the event by saying a few well thought out words. Other notable sponsors were Electrosales, Dulux and Safeguard resulting in a very healthy amount being set aside for the “Pink and Blue” project run in conjunction with the Cancer Association. Of special note were the T-shirts printed and worn by many of the crowd with a catchy logo and slogan “The Booby Traps”
There were about a dozen different variations of activities – no results or placings were recorded as a way of encouraging first timers to the triathlon world that “Anyone can participate if they just put their hands up to do so”
The next “Pink and Blue” day will revert to the usual timing in October – let’s see if we can have even more competitors. I look forward to seeing you all there.
Ciao Mike G.
