The annual Chisipite Senior Pink Fun Run for Cancer is one of those beautiful traditions that never fails to inspire, bringing together hundreds of people united by a single, vibrant color: pink. This much-anticipated yearly event is proudly done in partnership with CancerServe, an incredible organization that is doing vital work on the ground.
Constituted as a broad entity, CancerServe brings together diverse professionals, cancer survivors, family members, healthcare stakeholders, and well-wishers. Their shared mission is to help support efforts to stem the tide of cancer in Zimbabwe and beyond. Launched in 2018 as a registered Private Voluntary Organization, it continues to be a beacon of hope and support for those affected by the disease.
The magic of this year’s event actually began for me before I even reached the venue. In a beautiful coincidence, I met two lovely ladies on my way to the Fun Run. We immediately identified each other through our matching pink clothing, striking up a conversation. (opens in new tab)
I discovered that both of them were 20-year breast cancer survivors! Hearing their stories of resilience and seeing them actively participating in the run was a powerful reminder of why we show up in pink. It was a beautiful testament to the fact that survival is something to be celebrated loudly and proudly.
When we arrived, the atmosphere was electric. The event catered to everyone, with enthusiastic walkers taking a leisurely, supportive stroll, while the runners pushed their limits with high energy. The spirit of camaraderie was matched by plenty of excitement, with fantastic prizes and draws awarded to the best performers.
