It's that time again - the famous St John’s Mukuru Derby Day that is taking place right now. This year’s event started on the 27th of April and will run until the 2nd of May, featuring participation from over twenty schools.

There’s certainly plenty of entertainment for everyone. Regardless of what kind of sports you prefer, whether your interest lies in hockey, rugby, or soccer, there’s always something happening on the fields.

Apart from sports, the variety of food stalls adds another layer to the experience. I personally decided to try out Fat Ants, and I must admit, it lives up to the good reviews.

With so many sports matches, my attention was attracted by the rugby fixtures. There’s something about the physicality of the game.

The intensity and the constant back-and-forth make it impossible to look away. The anticipation alone is enough to get your adrenaline going, and the action on the field only amplifies that feeling.

I chose to watch the final rugby match of the day between St. George’s College 1st XV and St Alban’s College 1st XV (SA). As expected, it was a thrilling encounter, with St. George’s securing a solid 39–26 victory. It capped off what was clearly a victorious day for them as their 2nd XV also claimed a 29–12 win against Lomagundi College, while their 1st XI soccer team won 2–1 against Churchill School.

Now, if you plan to visit this event for the upcoming days, you might be able to guess whose team you should support!

While the holiday period lasts for our schools, this event seems like a good opportunity for you to have some fun. It’s casual and definitely worth visiting with both your family and your friends. See you there!
