Hi All

I’m of the opinion that one should set aside one day of the week to do something completely different to the daily workday grind. Such a day is universally known as “The Sabbath Day” - when you switch off from the humdrum of day-to-day life.

Those with deeply religious feelings will, on their Sabbath, have complete abstinence from just about everything; Some will commit their day to playing one of their favourite sports like Running or Golf; others will light up their braais with mates when the sun reaches its zenith (Midday); whilst the more relaxed individual will just sit outdoors enjoying the quiet of nature reading their current Thriller.

A few Sundays ago, I decided to have a “Sunday Me-Day” doing things that I truly liked doing on my own - having no-one to answer to deliberately unplugging the TVs or computers – a “digital detox”.

Even though I had, as usual, been awakened by the local Heuglin Robins and Turacos, I rolled over and lazily slept in for an extra couple of hours. On completion of my morning ablutions, I took a short stroll around the garden with my dogs before settling down to 45 minutes of light exercises and stretching recommended by my Biokineticist.

This was followed by a quick shower before heading off to try out yet another new church – I’m still searching for one where the Priest or Minister delivers a meaningful sermon soon after relevant readings from the bible along with a limited number of toe-tapping songs – like the “All things bright and beautiful” that we sang as kids at Scripture Union some 60 years ago.

Being somewhat of an exercise “Junkie” I had to include a 40km cycle on my road bike taking up two strenuous hours of my “Me-day”. Then it was back home for a long soaking in a hot bath before my lunch time salad and mandatory afternoon kip.

The Hyatt Meikles Hotel now has an excellent Massage treatment section complete with separate showers, toilets, and detoxing “lounges” so I Indulged in an hour long, full body, deep tissue massage by an amiable, well-trained therapist complete with Hibiscus Tea.

My day was rounded off with a couple of Gin and Tonics sitting next to the upstairs “Infinity Pool” at the Hyatt Meikles reading the last few chapters of my latest thriller.

Why don’t you have a similar “Me Day Sunday” sometime soon. Ciao Mike G.
