At Bambazonke, we are always thrilled to discover the multifaceted talents of Zimbabwe’s youth. During our 2025 Short Story Writing Competition, we were absolutely blown away by the creative brilliance of a young writer named Destiny Nyandoro. Her captivating storytelling earned her 1st Place in the 7–12 age category.

Destiny is also a brilliant, budding robotics engineer with a deep passion for using technology to solve real-world environmental challenges. Her interest in robotics blossomed in 2024 when she joined the Omorfo Tech robotics club, attending sessions during her school holidays. Her dedication quickly paid off. In 2025, she was named a finalist at the Zimbabwe Science Fair for an incredible project: a water-cleaning robot.

Designed to collect litter and decomposing debris from water bodies, the robot uses a conveyor belt to deposit waste into a bin. It can be operated manually or via remote control, and even features a smart alert system that notifies the operator when the bin is full.

Now, Destiny’s hard work has earned her an invitation to participate in a prestigious robotics competition in Senegal (PARC), scheduled for the6th of November. At this competition, Destiny’s goal is to build on her strong foundation by improving her robot design, programming, and engineering skills. She is eager to test herself against other young innovators from across the continent and learn through teamwork.

More importantly, she hopes to return home with practical knowledge and new ideas to upgrade her existing robot, develop new projects, and share everything she has learned with her peers at her school and the Omorfo Tech Club.

With a wealth of innovative ideas and a promising future ahead of her, Destiny is seeking your support to help cover the cost of her airfare to Senegal. If you or your organisation would like to sponsor her travel or assist this brilliant young innovator in any way, please reach out to her mother on +263 77 313 5149. Let’s help our young storyteller and robot-builder reach her destination!
