Halloween, rooted in ancient traditions and now a global celebration, is often seen as a playful night when costumes, creativity, and community come alive. It’s a time to explore the spooky and the imaginative, mixing fun with a bit of fright.

Around Harare and beyond, Halloween has grown into an event where people of all ages get to showcase their creativity. It’s a chance for everyone to step out and impress with their outfit ingenuity. People dress up as witches, superheroes and all sorts of quirky characters.

This past Saturday, I joined the Family Festive Halloween at Sam Levy’s Village. Unlike many who dove into the costume fun, I chose to go without one, partly because I wasn’t quite ready to explain Halloween’s playful spirit to my very religious African parents. Still, the absence of a costume didn’t diminish the experience.

The energy and enthusiasm were infectious, especially during the trick-or-treating around the village. The young ones eagerly went door to door, their delighted faces lit up with every candy find. It was heartwarming to see the community come together, enjoying the experience.

As darkness settled, a mini night market unfolded, as the entertainment kept everyone engaged. For those who missed it, Halloween celebrations continue across town, inviting everyone to dream up unique costumes and enjoy the vibrant community spirit that this holiday brings.
