This past Saturday, the Zimbabwe National Indoor Women’s Hockey Team, affectionately known as the Zimbabwe Flames, laced up their sneakers alongside supporters for a meaningful 5km Pink Walk. The event served a powerful dual purpose: raising vital awareness for breast cancer and supporting the team’s fundraising campaign for their upcoming trip to Cape Town this December.
The team is set to compete in the prestigious Nkosi Cup, a highlight of the Pro Series Indoor Nationals. It is a massive opportunity for Zimbabwe to share the pitch with top indoor hockey nations, including South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Malaysia, and Namibia. However, making this international trip possible requires significant resources.
Funds raised from community events like the Pink Walk, alongside corporate sponsorships, will go directly toward essential costs like travel, accommodation, and team preparation. The journey to Cape Town is a collective effort, and there is still time for individuals and businesses to be part of this historic chapter for Zimbabwean women’s sports.

The Zimbabwe Flames have shown that their impact extends far beyond the hockey pitch. They are fighting for goals and victories, as well as for health, hope, and national pride. Let’s continue to rally behind the Flames as they step boldly toward Cape Town.
