Last Sunday, Mukuvisi Woodlands came alive with plenty of positive energy as 145 enthusiastic participants laced up their shoes for the Walk/Run for Rangers, an event dedicated to supporting the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting Zimbabwe's extraordinary wildlife heritage. The diverse crowd had runners, dog walkers, strollers and cyclists of all ages. It proved that supporting a great cause just needs a willing heart and a desire to make a difference.
This event was about recognising and supporting the rangers who put their lives on the line every single day to protect Zimbabwe's elephants and their landscapes.
The Zambezi Elephant Fund have made it their mission to secure a long-lasting future for elephants and their rangelands through funding, collaboration, and innovative ideas, but they can't do it without community support. Every cent raised goes directly toward supporting these incredible rangers who work tirelessly, often in challenging conditions, to ensure that future generations can still marvel at Zimbabwe's majestic elephants in the wild.
As someone who is always keen to carve out time for a 5km walk around Mukuvisi Woodlands, I can personally attest to the magic of this place. It's incredibly restorative to weave through the indigenous trees, catching glimpses of wildlife, and breathing in that fresh, earthy air, reminding one exactly what we're fighting to protect.
Let's continue to show up for our rangers and to protect our wildlife heritage. And let's continue to appreciate the natural treasures right here in our backyard.
