Karate – The Japanese Art of Empty Hands
Karate originated in Okinawa, Japan, where local fighting methods merged with Chinese martial arts over centuries. It was later introduced to mainland Japan by Master Gichin Funakoshi, who developed the Shotokan style.
The word Karate means "Empty Hand," reflecting its emphasis on defending oneself without weapons.
Karate's philosophy extends far beyond fighting. It teaches discipline, humility, respect, perseverance, and continuous self-improvement.
Taekwondo – Korea's Dynamic Martial Art
Taekwondo was developed in Korea after World War II by combining traditional Korean martial arts with influences from Japanese Karate.
The name Taekwondo means:
- Tae – Foot Kwon – Fist Do – Way It literally translates to "The Way of the Foot and Fist."
Taekwondo is renowned for its spectacular kicking techniques and became an official Olympic sport in 2000.
